Our changing climate is not a distant or abstract threat. New Yorkers who lived through Superstorm Sandy know firsthand the real, clear, and present danger that climate change presents. Lower Manhattan’s elevation makes it especially vulnerable to sea-level rise and storm surge. New York State must take bold steps on climate adaptation and transitioning to an emissions-free economy.

Investing now in New York’s climate resiliency will save lives, homes, and businesses from the inevitable impacts of climate change. Projects like a sea wall to guard against storm surge and flooding protections in the subway system must be prioritized and transparent to the public. 

Preventing the worst outcomes of climate change requires an urgent shift away from fossil fuels. New York’s commitment to a net-zero carbon economy must get serious, with large investments in wind and solar electricity generation, creating thousands of new jobs in the process.
